Roe v Wade: A Victory for Women and Girls

Roe v. Wade decided by the United States Supreme Court in 1973 was a victory based on the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution, Roe guaranteed that "persons born in the United States are citizens of the United States and that no State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; norshall any State deprive any person of life, liberty or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

Under this historic amendment passed during Reconstruction after the Civil War in 1868 which guaranteed to freed formerly enslaved persons citizenship, women being born are persons and therefore citizens of the United States and the State in which they reside and are therefore entitled to have their rights to life and liberty respected and guaranteed by the State. Roe v. Wade stated that women and girls were moral agents and citizens who had the right to make their own medical decisions free of government interference.
